Jane Barbone is a San Francisco based stand up comedienne. Her
comedy stylings touch on the collective higher consciousness of the
bay area: "God is my Sugar Daddy". . . to family/finances, "Anybody
looking forward to getting bent over by Uncle Sam? Not that I mind
getting bent over. Little creepy when it involves an Uncle". . . to
observational therapy, "I'm changing the subject. My therapist says
I should tell people that because it's kind of confusing". . . to
health and the SWF in a monologue Jane calls her "Me Moment," something
a #8 of 9 sibling only dreams of as a child.
One of nine children, she horrified her family by specializing as a dealer (not drugs... blackjack) in Atlantic City, the Bahamas & Las Vegas. The gamblers, her captive audience, consistently said how much funnier she was than the comic they'd just seen across the street in a comedy club. "Due to my lack of height I had to stand on a riser when I was dealing and each time I'd bring one to the game and hop up on it, someone would ask: "Were you standing in a hole? Of course, everyone would laugh and I'd reply, "No, I asked for a raise & they gave me a box to stand on." Dared by friends in 1994 to attend a comedy class at a Las Vegas college, she found herself thrust into a career. Finally breaking free from the day job she threw caution to the wind ("actually it was just my bank account") and moved to the bay area in '97. Couch surfing and finding cheap rent wherever possible she continued to hone the craft, producing & performing in an all women comedy showcase monthly (no pun intended) for three years called No 'Y' Chromosome Comedy. "When I moved to San Francisco, I was jobless and homeless, so I joined a dating service, cause a girl's gotta eat. My ad read, 'Me Jane Seeks You... Meal ticket.'" Going on the road from LA to Walla Walla, WA, NY, Philadelphia, PA and several places in between she's now a feature road comic.
